![]() ![]() ![]() His first artistic and commercial success, the 2.4 Chair, was nearly his last. He began to create increasingly fanciful models for buildings that didn’t exist and felt drawn to creating new forms of expression.Īrbel has celebrated a banner 2013 with Bocci’s European debut this spring at Euroluce, Milan’s biannual furniture salon, and the installation of a 35-metre-tall light sculpture at the Victoria and Albert Museum during the London Design Festival.īut success has not come without risks. It was only toward the end of a six-year program at the University of Waterloo that a growing obsession with architectural scale models pointed him in a different direction. I knew I was meant to be a creator all my life,” says Omer Arbel in the rooftop garden of Bocci’s headquarters in the design-centric Armoury District of Vancouver.īorn in Jerusalem, the Vancouver-raised industrial designer originally thought his calling was architecture. ![]() Minimum drop length: 23.6" h | 20W xenon long life bulb or 1.Omer Arbel – Industrial Designer – Omer Arbel Office and Bocci Please call the hive showroom with any questions: 1-86.ġ9.5" dia. Unless otherwise specified, one transformer is sent for every three pendants. Canopy attaches directly to a standard junction box. Installation to be done by certified electrician to ensure code compliance. All Bocci designs are developed, engineered, and fabricated in-house through an infrastructure calibrated to provide full control over technique, quality, and scale.īocci recommends mounting transformers remotely in a close, accessible and hidden location for ease of long term maintenance. Today, Bocci has a growing portfolio of contemporary design ranging from light installations through to furniture and electrical sockets. The company launched with one product, 14, which became an instant classic and remains a design staple and bestseller. In 2005, Bocci was founded in a red barn surrounded by hay fields, on the periphery of Vancouver, Canada. Omer Arbel's work has been exhibited in various museums around the world. His interdisciplinary practice spans multiple scales and cultural-economic contexts. Additional cable lengths are available in increments of 10' feet, up to a maximum of 100' feet in special applications.īocci Creative Director Omer Arbel explores the intrinsic mechanical, physical, and chemical qualities of materials as fundamental departure points for making work. Round, brushed-nickel canopies come standard with 10' feet of coaxial cable. 28.7 uses strain relief connections, which allow the pendant lengths to be adjusted on site. The result is an ambient chandelier or field of light. ![]() The pendants hang in shape of a hexagonal bouquet, bundled together by an adjustable ring which changes the curvature of the piece and its proportional reading. Each sphere contains an interior landscape of satellite shapes, including an opaque milk glass diffuser.Ģ8.7 is a cluster of seven 28 pendants hung from a round canopy. 28's are possible with infinite versatility in color compositions, sizes and shapes. The result is a distorted spherical shape with a composed collection of imploded inner shapes, one of which acts as a shade for a low voltage (12V, 20W) xenon or LED light source. Individual 28 pendants result from a complex glass blowing technique whereby air pressure is intermittently introduced into and then removed from a glass matrix which is intermittently heated and then rapidly cooled. Instead of designing form itself, here the intent was to design a system of making that yields form. 28 is an exploration of specificity in manufacturing. ![]()
